Please read through the Buddhist and Confucian material in either the Stephen Prothero book (pp. 101-130;169-202) or the Huston Smith book (pp. 82-153; 154-195). What do you find particularly attractive in the Buddhist tradition? What about the Confucian tradition?
What seem to be the great strengths of these traditions as"world" religion, i.e., as religions that aren't bound to a specific historical niche? What do you see that might make it easy or hard for Buddhism and/or Confucianism to expand beyond their original homeland?
